Minimally invasive cancer therapy

In the last few years in the local tumor therapy, a trend can be seen to interventional procedures. Radiological interventions in this context as a symptomatic treatment, eg used for decompression, but also for local tumor destruction of soft tissue tumors of the liver, head and neck region, as with other issues.

In addition to the breast cancer tumors also show the prostate, thyroid, lung and kidney to bone metastases, a specific trend. Bone metastases cause very severe pain, fractures and hypercalcemia, and are a major clinical problem. The affected patients are based, the severe restriction of life by severe pain and associated immobilization, and often die almost exclusively on complications that are caused by the bone lesion. Bone pain, the most common complication of bone metastases are caused by the destruction of the bone structure, bone, skin irritations and nerve constriction.

The limited possibilities of surgical reconstruction of advanced metastatic tumors, and the limited effectiveness of systemic chemotherapy and radiotherapy, especially with spinal metastases have made the tomographic image-guided or guided therapies for many therapists interesting. It is often only through this process a symptomatic conventional cancer therapy such as chemotherapy or radiation at all possible.

The tomographic controlled local tumor therapy procedures are to be regarded primarily as a palliative, complementary treatments in addition to the standard procedures such as cancer surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone and immune therapy. These procedures are usually only indicated when the classical conventional therapies prove inadequate or are not good.

The aim of these therapies is the most effective pain relief to improve the quality of life.
