Tumor

In recent years there has been a trend towards interventional procedures in local tumor therapy. Radiological interventions are referred to in this context as symptomatic treatment, e.g. for decompression, but also for the local tumor destruction of soft tissue tumors of the liver, used in the head and neck region as well as other issues

In addition to breast cancer, tumors of the prostate, thyroid, lung and kidneys also show a particular tendency to bone metastases. Bone metastases cause extreme pain, fractures and hypercalcaemia and are a major clinical problem. In the affected patients, the severe impairment of quality of life due to severe pain and the associated immobilization, and often death, are almost exclusively due to complications caused by bone involvement. Bone pain, the most common complication of bony metastases, is caused by the destruction of bone structure, irritation of the bones and nerve constriction.

The limited possibilities of surgical rehabilitation of advanced metastatic tumors, as well as the limited efficiency of systemic chemotherapy and radiotherapy, especially in the metastases of the spinal cord, have made the image-controlled or tomographically controlled therapeutic procedures interesting for many therapists. Frequently, conventional symptomatic treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy, becomes possible only through these symptomatic procedures.

Tomato-directed localized tumor therapy procedures are primarily palliative complementary treatments alongside standard procedures such as tumor surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormone and immunotherapy. These procedures are usually only indicated when the classical conventional treatment options prove to be insufficient or not good.

The goal of these therapies is the most effective pain reduction possible for improving the quality of life. Read here which possibilities we have in our practice.
